Olympic dream...peace, justice, harmony: while the rest of the world lives a nightmare

Beijing had initially planned a budget of 1.609 billion dollars to cover the costs of its bid for the 2008 Olympics, and later revised the budget by raising the figure to more than 2 billion dollars due to expenditure increase on tightening security and the appreciation of the yuan, Chinese currency.

But the figure still stays short of the 2.4-billion-dollar budget for the Athens Olympics in 2004. BOCOG officials have said that the Chinese capital will spend less than Athens on holding the Games.( Beijing International )

"Based on a rough analysis, we estimate that a doubling of food prices over the last three years could potentially push 100 million people in low-income countries deeper into poverty," Zoellick said in a statement at the conclusion of the World Bank spring meeting here. ( Economic Times )

The World Bank in 2001 estimated 2.733 million

I can't help dream with a redemptive imagination what would happened if the world decided to spend 2 Billion dollars every two years ( summer and winter olympics ), on the most impoverished places in the global village. I can only dare say...then we have begun to dream about peace, justice and harmony. Only then might we even begin to celebrate. We dream about our world...which is so different from their's.
