I got an e-mail from Chris Monroe @ Paradoxology, yesterday to give me the heads up on a Skypecast he is doing on Wednesday with Sarah Cuningham who dropped by here last week entering a conversation.
Chris asks to join him on Wednesday, August 16th, as we interview and dialog with author Sarah Cunningham about her recently released book, "Dear Church: Letters from a Disillusioned Generation."
Dear Church is a series of letters from a former emergent church staffer to the global church she's not always sure she wants to be a part of. On a personal level, Sarah's story awakens the sometimes M.I.A. (missing in action ) voice of the twenty-somethings who are distancing themselves from conventional expressions of religion. But, thanks to discussion questions that can be used for personal or group reflection, this book is much more than just one person's story. On a global level, Dear Church invites every person to engage their own disappointments and share in Sarah's story—the story of journeying through disillusionment and back again.
I'll be posting a interview with Sarah that day (one we're currently working on), and then inviting all of you to leave questions or comments for Sarah about her book. She'll be checking-in with us throughout the day (and night) to answer questions and enjoy the dialog.
In addition, Sarah will be guest for a special Skypecast that same evening, August 16th, from 7-8pm. This will be a great opportunity for you to ask questions and dialog with Sarah LIVE ( * a Skypecast is similar to a "conference call"). If you don't yet have Skype, you can get it here for free. If you haven't used Skype before, it's pretty cool, and easy...download, plug in your head set and your ready to join the conversation.
After being involved with emerging churches and leaders for roughly five years now, and being repeatedly exposed to a plethora of rants and critiques of the institutional Church, the balance that Sarah Cunningham is aiming for in her book is a breath of fresh air. In part, that's why I'm so excited about having her here as our guest at Paradoxology.
Spread the word, try to read her book, and then come and participate on the 16th!
