Social Justice Awareness Conference: ‘Marginalization: From the Shadow Towards the Light’
St. Saviour’s Anglican Church Rainbow Kitchen announces its First Social Justice Awareness Conference, featuring Sara Miles, author of “Take This Bread.”
Conference Date: September 11 and 12, 2009
Conference Title: “Marginalization: From the Shadow to the Light.”
Conference Focus: How can we, as faith communities, more effectively reach out to and incorporate the most marginalized people in our midst via innovative liturgical practice, advocacy, and social justice initiatives?
Sponsor: St. Saviour’s Anglican Church Rainbow Kitchen. (The parish hosts and administers the 75 interfaith volunteers who provide a hot and nutritious lunch to 100 - 140 marginalized Victoria residents five days per week.)
Conference Leadership:
Sara Miles, best-selling author of “Take This Bread,” and founder of the Food Pantry for marginalized folks at St. Gregory of Nyssa, San Francisco; Paul Fromberg, Rector of St. Gregory of Nyssa, San Francisco, avant-garde liturgist, and artist; Dr. Christopher Lind, Economic Justice expert, author, and Fellow of Massey College, University of Toronto; Gregory Kerr-Wilson, Bishop of the Diocese of Qu’Appelle, responsible for a diocesan Habitat for Humanity initiative in Regina, and actively engaged in First Nations discourse.
In addition to conference presentations there will be a panel discussion involving, marginalized members of the community, local outreach advocates and the conference leaders. Also, a community action project will be incorporated into the conference focusing on brain trauma, homelessness, and youth; in conjunction with the Cridge Centre for the Family.

Conference Registration: Cost $100.00 (Friday and Saturday lunches and break snacks included.) Please make cheques payable to: St. Saviour’s.
